About RETA

The Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association (RETA)
The Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association (RETA) is the most recognized organization in the country dedicated to the professional development of industrial refrigeration operators and technicians. Founded in 1910, RETA is a non-profit membership and certification organization currently based in Albany, Oregon.

What is RETA?
The Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association (RETA), founded in 1910, is an international society of individuals and companies involved in the design, operation and service of industrial refrigeration systems. Its purpose is to provide education and training, as well as networking benefits, to both experienced operators and those who have recently entered this rapidly expanding field.

In what year was RETA established?
RETA was organized in 1910 as the National Association of Practical Refrigerating Engineers (NAPRE) — in the year following its first convention in 1909.

The name change to Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association was voted on at the National Conference general membership meeting on October 19th, 1961.
What is RETA’s structure as an association?
RETA is governed by a member-elected Board of Directors consisting of a Chairman, President, Executive Vice President, Treasurer, and Second Vice President, plus Directors and National Committee Chairs.

RETA’s structure provides for localized Chapters as well as members at-large (members located in a geographic location where a Chapter has not yet been established). RETA is managed by its HQ staff, headed by Jim Barron, Executive Director, and is located in Albany, OR.

Membership is comprised of individual members, corporate, student and retired members.
What is the RETA Mission Statement?
To enhance the professional development of industrial refrigeration operating and technical engineers.

Who should attend?
All professionals, students or even experts working in Industrial Refrigeration Industry. There is something for everyone. Gain valuable insight, training, and gain PDH (Professional Development Hours) credits to maintain your certification designation.

Why should I attend?
Competition is getting fiercer and the industry is looking for certified technicians. The RETA National Conference is the largest gathering of Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians which offers 3 ½ full days of educational and networking activities and events.

You can also take the CARO, CIRO, CRST or CRES Review Course during the National Conference. Sign up to take one of the review courses and finish with taking the certification exam at conference. The only way to stay ahead in this industry is to position yourself as a leader. RETA certification exams are accredited by ANSI (American National Standards Institute), which requires that they are continually scrutinized by an organization whose sole mission is to establish, maintain and assure that the highest industry standards are set and met in a continuous and ongoing basis.
