About LAEDC
The information age is spurring unprecedented economic change. Almost every job requires more technology and technical skills. Many jobs are either being eliminated due to automation, or require technical knowledge that exceeds the level of training of workers. And many of the jobs being created in the LA region pay poorly and don’t provide a pathway out of poverty.
Human Cost
Automation and lower-paying jobs lead to increased social stresses. There’s a human cost in terms of support services that are needed for the unemployed, underemployed and working poor. Obviously, this puts a tremendous stress on the family as well as communities and even municipal budgets. Livelihood goes to the core of what it means to be human, to provide security to those we love, and to have meaningful lives. Without some type of intervention, the future looks pretty bleak.
LAEDC’s Impact
This is where the LAEDC, a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to advancing opportunity and prosperity for all, makes its impact. We believe L.A. County’s future prosperity is about our people. LAEDC works collaboratively with your organization to see trends early, and put our energies where we can make a difference. LAEDC’s leadership in research, our strategic approach based on those findings, and our programs and initiatives bring together the many stakeholders and civic stewards who want to make a positive difference for the future of the Greater Los Angeles economy.
And in fact, we’re taking a leadership role with businesses by supporting industry clusters that build out supply chains and feeder industries. There is a lot of reason for optimism because LA has many thriving, globally competitive industries that create well-paying jobs, if they are able to grow and hire.
Our region’s educational institutions are also working hard with LAEDC to further align coursework with the real skills businesses need.
Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) was founded in 1981 as a nonprofit, public-benefit organization to harness the power of private sector in collaboration with L.A. County, to guide economic development and create more widely shared prosperity. LAEDC collaborates with all stakeholders in the region including education, business, and government.
