Veterinarian's Oath
Being admitted to the profession of veterinary medicine, I solemnly swear to use my scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health, the relief of animal suffering, the conservation of animal resources, the promotion of public health, and the advancement of medical knowledge.
I will practice my profession conscientiously, with dignity, and in keeping with the principles of veterinary medical ethics.
I accept as a lifelong obligation the continual improvement of my professional knowledge and competence.

History
The Iowa Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA) was founded in 1883. Today we have over 1,600 members representing all aspects of veterinary medicine, including clinical companion animal and production animal veterinarians, researchers, professors and regulatory veterinarians.
The IVMA is the only organization in Iowa that represents a broad base of veterinarians. Our mission statement is “Providing a vision and voice through continuing education, publications, legislative and social activities to enhance the veterinary profession, improve animal well-being and defend public health”.
